Iron Butt Program
Who can participate in the Red Knights EU Iron Butt Program?
All active Red Knights members in good standing who are riders (not passengers) are eligible. You must belong to a recognised Red Knights chapter within Europe.
What is the required mileage for the Iron Butt Program?
You need to ride at least 10,000 km (about 6,220 miles) between 1 January and 31 December of the same calendar year. The mileage can be accumulated on any motorcycle, including personal bikes, rentals, or a combination.
How do I prove that I have completed the mileage?
Provide clear photographs of your motorcycle's odometer: the starting mileage (on or shortly after 1 January) and the ending mileage (on or before 31 December). For a rental bike, include the rental agreement showing the mileage.
Can I use multiple motorcycles during the year?
Yes. You can combine mileage from several motorcycles (your own bikes, rentals, loaners). Just keep proper odometer proof or rental documentation for each bike used.
Is there a cost to participate or receive the award?
Yes — a small fee of EUR 10 (or local equivalent) covers producing and shipping the Iron Butt patch and certificate plus administration.
When and how do I submit my application?
Applications are submitted after the riding season ends (after 31 December). Fill in your details, attach your odometer photos, and email them to the awards address.
Does the mileage have to be ridden in Europe?
No. The 10,000 km can be accumulated anywhere in the world — the programme focuses on total distance ridden in the calendar year, not the location.
I'm a new member — can I still join the Iron Butt challenge?
Yes, as long as you are a member in good standing by the time you apply. The mileage period always starts on 1 January, even if you joined later in the year.
